An hour twice a year. That is genuinely all it takes to avoid most of the expensive stuff.
What Happens at a Preventive Visit at Dental Wellness
| What we do | What we are looking for | How often |
|---|---|---|
| Comprehensive dental exam | Cavities, cracks, wear, gum issues, early problems | Every 6 months |
| Professional cleaning | Plaque and tartar that your toothbrush misses no matter how well you brush | Every 6 months |
| Digital X-rays | Hidden decay, bone loss, infections you cannot see or feel yet | Once a year or as needed |
| Oral cancer screening | Early signs that are easily missed without a trained eye | Every visit |
| Gum health check | Early-stage gum disease before it becomes a bigger issue | Every visit |
| Bite and wear assessment | Grinding patterns, jaw tension, uneven wear across teeth | As needed |
| Home care review | What is actually working and what to adjust; product recommendations | Every visit |
Most of this fits in under an hour. And with most insurance plans, the cost is zero. New patients without insurance pay $49 for the exam and X-rays.
Three Reasons Regular Checkups Actually Matter
Prevention Costs a Fraction of Treatment
A filling caught early costs far less than a crown caught late, which costs far less than an extraction and implant. The math is straightforward.
Most Problems Have No Symptoms Until They Are Big
Cavities, gum disease and oral cancer do not usually hurt until they are well advanced. A checkup finds them while they are still small.
Two Hours a Year Is Not a Lot to Ask
Two visits, roughly an hour each. That is the investment. Most people spend longer than that at the DMV.

FAQ
How often should I come in?
Twice a year is the standard recommendation for most people. If you have a history of gum disease or cavities, we might suggest more frequent visits for a period. Dr. Baranes will tell you what makes sense for your situation.
I have not been to a dentist in a long time. Is that a problem?
Not for us. A lot of our patients come in after a gap of a year, three years, sometimes longer. We do not make you feel bad about it. We just look at where things stand and figure out what needs attention.
Do cleanings hurt?
Most of the time, no. If your gums are inflamed or it has been a while, there might be some sensitivity. Our hygienists are gentle and will check in with you throughout. Let us know if anything is uncomfortable and we will adjust.
Does my insurance really cover this for free?
For most preventive plans, yes. Exams, cleanings and X-rays are covered at 100 percent under the majority of dental insurance plans. We confirm your coverage before the appointment so you know exactly what to expect.
What is the $49 special for?
It is for new patients who do not have dental insurance. Full comprehensive exam plus X-rays, $49. No hidden fees. It is our way of making the first step easy.
Do you see children?
Yes. We welcome patients of all ages. For younger kids, we focus on making the experience comfortable so they grow up thinking of the dentist as a normal part of life rather than something to dread.
Do you have bilingual staff?
Yes. Our team includes Spanish-speaking staff. If you or a family member is more comfortable in Spanish, we can accommodate that.
When did you last have a checkup? If you have to think about it, book one.
$49 new patient exam. Most insurance: free. Free parking. Bilingual staff.
